Places Where Sugar Likes To Hide That Will Surprise You

Looking to lose weight? If so, one thing that you're very likely avoiding on your diet is sugar. Sugar has gotten quite a bad rap recently amongst the weight loss crowd and for good reason. Not only is it completely devoid of nutrients and high in calories, but it's going to cause your blood sugar levels to skyrocket upon consumption, only having you suffer from a serious crash a short while later.

What's more is that eating sugar will set off a chain of events in your body that only promotes fat storage, so if you're looking to melt fat, it's something that you must stay away from.

Many people are quickly able to spot the usual places where sugar lurks but overlook a few of the sneakier places where it likes to hide out.

By taking some time to uncover the 'hidden' sugar sources, you can be sure that you are in fact cutting this dietary evil out of your program.

Let's have a look at what you need to know.

Fruit Juice

If you're someone who likes to start your day off with a glass of orange juice, you may want to rethink that strategy. While it is true that this sugar will be natural fruit sugars (assuming you're not purchasing concentrated orange juice), the fact of the matter is that it is still sugar and there is an awfully lot of it in that glass you're drinking.

Instead, opt for real fruit. Not only will you get less fruit sugar but you'll also get a powerful punch of fiber to help slow the digestion of that orange down.

Yogurt

Second, another place where you're going to find hidden sugar is in that fat-free yogurt you love to have as a mid-morning snack.

It's not abnormal to see some of these yogurts containing ten grams or more of sugar per serving, which his really going to add up over time.

Instead, go for Greek yogurt. Not only is the overall sugar content lower but it's far higher in protein as well.

Ketchup

Ketchup is yet another sneaky place where sugar likes to hide and many people think this is a seemingly innocent condiment. After all, it is low in fat and even offers some Lycopene from the tomato content.

But at the same time, there's at least 2 grams of sugar per tablespoon of ketchup consumed and in most instances you aren't stopping after just a tablespoon.

Instead, use salsa. This is a much healthier condiment and will pack in plenty of antioxidants.

Protein Bars

Finally, the last place sugar likes to lurk that you need to be careful of is in your protein bars. Protein bars seem like the smarter option compared to the chocolate or cereal bar due to their protein content, but don't be fooled.

Often these bars have just as much sugar, if not more than your average candy bar, so they really aren't any better.

Instead, prepare your own snack or make some protein bars at home. Then you can really see what goes into them and make sure it's nothing but quality ingredients.

So there you have the main things to remember about where sugar may be hiding in your diet. Are there any changes you should be making?
